Video of my poem What the Water Gave Me

Here's a video of me reading 'What the Water Gave Me (VI)' from my next collection What the Water Gave Me – Poems after Frida Kahlo, to be published by Seren in May 2010. This was filmed at the Sha'ar International Poetry Festival in Israel by Asher Gal last October at the Hebrew and Arabic Theatre in Jaffa. There are six poems in the collection based on Kahlo's painting of that name, interwoven throughout the book.
I'll post photos from the festival and of Israel soon.

In Kahlo's painting she is lying in her bath surrounded by scenes from her life and paintings. This sixth of my WtWGM poems is more a version than a literal interpretation.

  4. Wonderful, so lovely to hear one of your poems from YOU. Having just seen the film 'Frida', I feel as if a new world is opening up into her life.

Look forward to the book......and I love the new look to your blog.

(p.s. I have been inspired to write some poetry of my own at my blog after your advice of 'not being afraid to just write' - thank you!)

  5. Thank you all for your encouraging comments. I hope to post the video of most of this reading in Israel soon, three poems from The Zoo Father (including the controversial poem 'The Fish Daughter'!

Well done Lune, I'm grabbing some writing time myself at the moment after travels and teaching. Glad you like the new look blog, it's more spacious.

Doug it was an atmospheric place, though the festival uses this theatre for its peaceful ideal, because it's the Hebrew and Arabic Theatre.
